You ever heard of Angel? At least that’s what she calls herself.  She was, well…let’s just say she knew every guy in town.  Mmmhmmm…  And you know Michael right?  Yeah he’s the goody-two-shoes.  The one going around town telling everyone how they need to give up the life they’ve been living and turn back to God.

Well one day God tells Michael.  “Angel.  She’s your girl.  Go marry her.” I’m not stupid.  A leopard doesn’t change her spots very easily.  If she’s been sleeping around, I wouldn’t really be all that confident that it would change any time soon.

But Michael is obedient to God.  He marries her.  She leaves. He goes and finds her.  Not happily ever after.  She might be sleeping around.  He is faithful to her.

Two posts ago I mentioned that Israel was called a prostitute.  Well it happens more than in just Jeremiah.  The above is kind of a strange story right?  Why would God tell Michael (or Hosea as he is known in the Bible) to marry a girl who seems like trash?  And why does God even encourage him to go chase her down after she has been unfaithful?  Betraying?

Because that’s the kind of God we have.  We have a God who pursues us.  One who wants to save us from the lonliness, the anger, the endless cycle of striving and failure.  And even though we spit in His face he will find us again and try to win us back.
