Is it just my imagination or is there really such a thing as the “Christmas Spirit?”  Haven’t you felt it in the last few weeks?  People are almost always excited for Christmas.  They love the lights, the family togetherness, and the joy that seems to come out of peoples mouths.  People are smiling and telling complete strangers “Merry Christmas!”  Yes, there are plenty of horror stories about mobs at stores, rude drivers, and stressful busyness.  But these things happen year round and we seem to be even more appalled by them because “geezo! It’s Christmas time people!”

No, it’s not just me.  There really is such a thing as Christmas Spirit.  And here’s my theory.  It can’t be proven whatsoever, but I’m convinced it’s true.  People are celebrating Christ’s birth and giving glory to God–whether they know it or not.  They go up and down the aisles singing “Angels we have heard on high…Gloria, in excelsis Deo (Glory to God in the highest)” and my personal favorite “O Holy Night”-

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Let ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

And THAT my dear friends leads to peace and joy.  I believe the fact that the world is celebrating Christ’s coming, even if some hearts do not fully understand it…that then His Spirit is especially among.  So at Christmas….we are filled with love and good cheer.

You know what the best news is?  It doesn’t have to end after Christmas.  That peace and joy can continue….all we need is His Spirit.  Ask for it.  🙂
